Our Story
A modern Mediterranean vision, made in Austin.
In 2021, Chef Mert Altug arrived in the United States from Turkey with a vision: to bring the rich traditions of his homeland to Austin, Texas. After more than a decade in acclaimed restaurants across Turkey and Austin, he knew the city was missing something deeply personal to him — truly exceptional baklava.
Everything changed when Mert met his partner Rocky McDuffie, whose background spans fine dining, Michelin-starred hospitality, and bar management. In 2025, they founded Olive & Fire — a modern Mediterranean dessert brand rooted in Turkish tradition and inspired by their new home in Texas.
